The fault affecting the Blackrock exchange was due to faulty equipment from Eir in the Nutley exchange, which has now been replaced and service restored. Yesterday UCD experienced problems with the Blackrock exchange, preventing internal and external communications to and from Blackrock campus. An interim workaround had been put in place yesterday evening to mitigate the impact of the fault.

A faulty card in Eir’s Nutley exchange was causing the disruption to the Blackrock exchange service, which provides voice connectivity to Blackrock campus. The faulty equipment has been replaced, and service has been fully restored. Out team will continue to monitor closely the links to the exchange responsible for the fault.

A work around to minimise the effect of the fault now located in the Blackrock exchange, was put in place late last night. External and internal calls can now be made but capacity is limited.

A potential break on the cable connecting voice traffic between Belfield and Blackrock has been identified. We are currently working on a work around that will provide back up service until the break is resolved. It is unlikely that the situation will be resolved before end of business today. We will provide the next update tomorrow morning.

The issue has been isolated to one of the network links between Belfield and Blackrock campus. Our service providers continue to work on site to restore the service.
