The UCD Energy Unit would like to remind you once again of the benefits to be gained by shutting down non-essential equipment this May long-weekend, as well as taking the opportunity to thank you for your help with the last switch-off weekend.
The switch-off at Easter was very successful with more than 2% less electricity used than in Easter 2014, which allowed us to reach our target with savings of approximately €10,000! This is brilliant progress and we would like to thank everyone for their participation in what is such an excellent result!
Therefore the impact that you, the building users, can have on electricity usage is very clear to be seen. The shutting down of non-essential lighting, equipment and computers each evening and weekend is very important. Additionally, the efficient use of research equipment such as fume cupboards also has a considerable impact.
This long-weekend we hope to continue the reduction trend and reduce our electricity usage so that it is less than the same weekend last year. Last year electricity consumption was 77,602kWh on Monday the 5th of May, so let’s work together to bring that figure even lower this year!
