The Easter Bank-Holiday “Switch-Off” marks a continuation of the steady progress we have seen this year in terms of energy savings. The contribution of the UCD community is essential if the University is to achieve their ambitious energy efficiency 2020 targets and a comparison between this year and last year is showing that people are stepping up to the mark. Following on from the impressive St. Patrick’s weekend shut-down, consumption over the four day period, Friday-Monday fell by a very considerable 22,924kWh, or almost 8% less than last Easter. These additional savings alone equate to the annual usage of over 4 homes with the over-all savings compared to a normal weekend period being the equivalent of the annual electricity usage of almost 18 homes!
Easter Sunday in particular was record breaking, with the University consuming 8.5% less than the average Sunday so far this year and it was also the lowest usage of any day in 2016 to date! A big thank you to all of those who Switched-off!!
