Notice Summary:
The management of the disposal of WEEE now falls under the remit of Estate Services.
In the past, the removal of WEEE has been on an ad – hoc basis, with Estate Services responding to full cages as they occur. In some cases large quantities of WEEE arrive leaving the areas unsightly and difficult to clear up. A new system aimed to provide an effective methods for to removal of WEEE while lessening the impact it has on the environment /grounds of UCD, it is now introduced.
The following alternations will take place:
- The removal of WEEE cages at the rear of certain buildings.
- The bulk storage of WEEE at a central point
- Segregation of WEEE as required.
This managed approach will require that members of the UCD community needing to dispose of larger quantities or larger items of WEEE will have to inform Estate Services of their requirements in advance. This can be done by contacting us; estates@ucd.ie, or on extension 7000.
It is proposed that the removal of smaller items of WEEE that tends to occur on a more frequent basis will be captured by setting up WEEE collection days. It is envisaged that these will be scheduled on a monthly rotation.
Further information on this system will be available shortly on the Estates webpage, with regular updates on the Staff e-zine.
The participation of the University community in this endeavor is greatly appreciated and suggestions as to how the collection of Electronic Equipment may be improved are welcome.
