Before you leave the campus this evening we would like to take the opportunity to update you on UCD’s energy performance, as well as asking you once again to please switch-off before you go!
The University is investing in projects that are helping us to reach our public sector energy efficiency targets, which require an improvement of 33% by 2020. One of the projects we completed this summer was to upgrade lighting in a number of buildings to high efficiency LED. This project is making a real difference.
Based on calendar year 2017 which are the most up to date results available, UCD has improved by an impressive 30.4% which shows great progress in the context of a growing University. A big thank you to all who facilitated the lighting works this summer and who continue to support our efforts by switching-off!
To help continue this progress, please do not forget the “vampire” before you leave the University this weekend! Vampire power is another name for standby power, which when considering the thousands of devices across the University such as printers, laptops and screens can add up to a lot of electricity consumption. So please, each-evening switch-off at the socket where you can in order to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption.
Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween!
