Period
31 January - 04 February 2022Summary:
What is happening?
The lakes and water courses form an important part of UCD’s landscape and biodiversity portfolio. In total, the UCD lakes cover approximately 3 acres and host a wide variety of biodiversity, these areas have been carefully planned and are actively managed to ensure they are a haven for wildlife and an amenity for all.
The Upper Lake is a constructed wetland and has an area of 6000 m 2 along with a water body mass in excess of 9 million litres. The lake was designed to act as a natural rainwater treatment facility but in addition as a wildlife habitat adding to the rich biodiversity already found around the UCD Belfield campus.
These works necessitate the maintenance and removal of the rapidly growing aquatic plant, all works will be carried out by a professional lake and river cleaning services company restoring the open water with the marginal planting as originally intended to provide food and nesting for the habitants of the lake.
Why now?
In compliance with Section 40 of the Wildlife Act, removal works will take place before the commencement of bird & wild fowl nesting season.
All works will be guided by both Ecologist and Arborist reports as appropriate.
When will the work start and when will it be finished?
The clearance works will commence from 31st January and will be completed by 04th February 2022.
