The end of the academic year is one of the busiest periods within the University. As we enter the summer period over 6,000 people will visit and stay on the UCD Campus. In addition we will welcome many conferences and host numerous events from Ireland and around the globe. Taken together this leads to an extremely busy campus over the summer months.
In light of the changed levels of activity on Campus it is as important as ever to remember basic safety and personal security precautions which help ensure a secure environment on campus and for the wider community.
UCD is a managed campus with a 24 hour security service complemented with an extensive CCTV system. Daily activities include both pedestrian and vehicular security patrols across the campus, with recording of incidents both minor and significant in nature. Where an incident of a serious nature occurs the relevant authorities will be contacted.
You will be aware that the buildings have a changed opening and closing times during this period.
Some personal safety reminders include to:
- Never to leave personal items unattended in public areas
- Lock your office door every time you leave
- Report any suspicious vehicles, behaviour, or incident on Campus that you observe via the University’s 24/7 Emergency Line (01)716 7999. Please try to remember as many details of the event as possible. Estate Services will initiate an immediate response.
- Request an escort should you feel uneasy while walking on campus, particularly at night time. To arrange this please contact 716 7000 and a member of Estate Services will attend to walk you to your destination.
