The outage, caused by a fire at a substation, has left several residential areas in the dark including Mount Merrion, Stillorgan, Blackrock, Booterstown and Rathfarnham.
Repair crews are working to repair the fault and expect service to resume by 8 or 9am.
However due to safety concerns buildings in UCD will remain closed until power is fully restored and UCD technical staff confirm it is safe to reopen.
