We hope you are enjoying the summer and have some nice plans for this bank holiday weekend.
Before you leave campus this evening, please remember the University’s switch-off campaign and help us to improve UCD’s energy efficiency and reduce harmful emissions by switching off non-essential equipment and devices. We are delighted to report that the June Bank Holiday switch-off was a huge success. Campus electricity usage was down over 7% compared to the same weekend last year. This reduction alone is the equivalent to the average annual electricity usage of four Irish households!
This great performance also contributed to June being the month with the lowest consumption over the last three years!
So as you can see our collective efforts are indeed having a very positive impact. Please remember to switch-off all non-essential computers, laptops, printers, monitors and research equipment such as fume-cupboards and drying ovens, and to switch-off at the socket where possible to avoid “vampire power” consumption when equipment is left on standby.
Have a great weekend!
