January 2020Summary:
Being able to see and to be seen are two of the most important safety considerations cyclists should take into account during winter bike commuting. The UCD Smarter Travel Group, with assistance from An Garda Siochana, will be running two evening “Light up your Bike” events at the N11 and Clonskeagh exits of the Belfield Campus where we will be providing front and rear bike lights that can be used as a back up emergency set for campus cyclists with damaged or missing lights.
- Tuesday 21st January: Clonskeagh exit, 16:00 – 18:00
- Thursday 23rd January: N11 exit, 16:00 – 18:00
Smarter Travel Group Chair, Mark d’Alton said, “We are very keen that everybody commuting by bicycle stay as safe as they possibly can – and that means being well lit up, particularly at this time of year. Everybody should have at least one good light front and rear. We are holding this event to highlight to all cycling commuters the importance of making sure that they are visible to other road users – and that they also need to obey the law. We would encourage every cyclist to make sure that they have good lights and that are in proper working order.”
