Date
13 February 2020Summary:
From Thursday February 13th, a number of parking spaces within car park O4 (rear of George Moore Centre for Business & Lochlann Quinn School of Business) and O6 (Roebuck Residences) will be closed for tree surgery, transplanting & planting.
What is happening?
We are currently starting to prepare the site for construction of the Student Residence Masterplan Phase 2 project. The proposed development will increase UCD student residential accommodation by adding 1254 bed spaces and provide ancillary and complementary facilities to create a living campus community in a new residential village connected to and integrated with the existing residential villages.
These works necessitate the removal of a number of trees. All trees in this area have been surveyed by a professional Arborist and any identified as being suitable for transplanting are currently being relocated to other areas of the campus.
As part of the Student Residence Masterplan, an extensive planting programme including trees, naturalised areas and amenity planting will be carried out, in addition to our annual tree planting programme which is currently ongoing.
Why now?
In compliance with Section 40 of the Wildlife Act, all tree surgery and transplanting works will take place before the commencement of Bird nesting season. All works will be informed by professional Ecologist and Arborist advice as appropriate.
When will the works start, when will they be finish and which parking areas will be affected?
The works will be carried out during the month of February. A number of parking spaces will be affected in the car park on a rolling basis. As work is completed in particular areas parking spaces will be returned for use by motorists.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
