05 July 2018Summary:
Water restrictions are now in place across the greater Dublin area. UCD has a long-standing potable (drinking) water conservation programme which has been very successful to date, more information relating to this can be found on the Estate Services water sustainability page.
As a result of the current challenges due to the extended dry period, we are undertaking additional initiatives to further conserve our valuable water supply, including:
- Raising awareness of the importance of water conservation
- Deferring all window cleaning
- Amending automatic urinal flushing schedules where possible
- Limiting irrigation and continuing to utilise non-potable water for activities such as playing pitch/plant irrigation and urinal flushing
- Postponing fleet car washing
The above water conservation measures are now in place, however everyone has a part to play in conserving our valuable water supply. Please see the Irish Water website for some information on ways you can conserve water at home and in the workplace.
If you can implement water saving initiatives locally within your area it would be really helpful. If you notice a leak, or would like to discuss opportunities for water conservation in other areas, please let us know by contacting estates@ucd.ie
