The festive period is with us again – which means that University buildings will be closed for 11 consecutive days. This marks the longest period of time that the University is closed all year and therefore offers us considerable potential to reduce our carbon emissions and energy usage.

During the summer we upgraded existing lighting to high efficiency LED in a number of locations across the University. LED lighting uses up to 50% less electricity, has a much longer life-span and provides better light quality.

UCD will be open as normal today, Tuesday 17 October 2017. After conducting a general inspection of the university facilities last night and another one this morning, we anticipate no access restrictions and the University should be operating as normal.

Due to Storm Ophelia, UCD will be closed on Monday, 16 October 2017 and following advice from the Department of Education and Skills and Met Eireann.
