With most University buildings closed for four consecutive days, this extended weekend offers one of the best opportunities of the year for us to save energy and reduce emissions through the Switch-Off Campaign.
The St. Patrick’s Day public holiday weekend is the first major switch-off opportunity of the year. It also offers an opportunity to provide an update on progress towards our 2020 target.
The festive period is with us again – which means that University buildings will be closed for 11 consecutive days. This marks the longest period of time that the University is closed all year and therefore offers us considerable potential to reduce our carbon emissions and energy usage.

During the summer we upgraded existing lighting to high efficiency LED in a number of locations across the University. LED lighting uses up to 50% less electricity, has a much longer life-span and provides better light quality.
